Tinned Tuna with Grated Coconut/Tuna Thoran
Tuna Thoran:) I had planned to make cutlets with the tinned tuna, but got bored thinking about the whole process and the unavailability of boiled potatoes at home. This was the much thought-out alternative to it. I made thoran out of the tinned tuna! Hardly took any time... no cooking process for the tinned tuna. One minute wonders make my day!!!
Thoran is a typical South Indian way of cooking vegetables with a tadka and grated coconut, with lots of curry leaves in it. It goes well with white rice:)
1 can of tinned tuna (I used the tinned can of 185 gms of tuna in mineral water),
1 medium onion chopped fine,
1/2 a medium tomato chopped fine,
1 tsp chopped ginger,
1 tsp chopped garlic,
1 green chilli chopped fine,
1/2 tsp turmeric powder,
1 tsp red chilly powder (adjust to taste),
3/4 tsp coriander powder,
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 sprig of curry leaves
2 tbsps of dessicated coconut/freshly grated coconut.
Heat oil and add the mustard seeds. When they crackle, add the chopped onions, ginger and garlic. Saute till they are golden brown in colour. Add the chopped tomatoes. Fry for a minute. Add the turmeric powder, red chilly powder and coriander powder. Mix well and add the tinned tuna. Mash up the tuna and get it well mixed with all the ingredients. Add salt to taste. Let the mix be on medium flame till it gets dry. Once that done, add a few curry leaves to it. Add a tablespoon of dessicated coconut or freshly grated coconut to it. Mix and take off the fire. Serve hot.
